His Excellency lays on the Table the Papers, which had been previously sent round to Members, respecting the Charge of drunkenness recently brought by W. Deane, Captain Superintendent of Police, against Mr. Jarman, Assistant Superintendent, now under suspension by that officer.
His Excellency then laid on the table, too, the opinion of the Honorable Julian Pauncefote, Attorney General, bearing upon Mr. Jarman's length of Service and his claims to Pension, on the ground of efficiency and good Conduct, as attested by numerous testimonials sent in by Mr. Jarman in his Letter of the 24th Ultimo.

Mr. Deane, who was in attendance, was called in by order of His Excellency, and in answer to questions put by His Excellency, states, that since the Report of the Commission which sat in October, 1886, to inquire into a similar charge of intemperance, Mr. Jarman had never actually appeared in a state of intoxication, except that in some instances during that period his look and speech had betrayed an excessive indulgence in stimulants.
